Sports Report

After 14 weeks of the NFL season things are starting to take shape.  As I've said in the past, the NY Jets will go as far as Mark Sanchez takes them.  What once was considered a given, the playoffs now seem like they are a million miles away.  The next three weeks will determine how and if the Jets can make a run.  My guess is no - they will fall flat on their face.
The G-men on the other hand are doing the two things you need to do this time of year.  Their defense is controlling the game and the offense is running the ball at will.  This usually means success in the league when they play for pay.
Can it be?? The NY Knicks are 16-9 and winners of 12 of 13 games.  Whether or not they are for real is yet to be seen but it sure has brought excitement back to the garden.  GO KNICKS...
See ya next week, Fran

A Word about Service Contracts

Today's economy is challenging enough without having to worry about unexpected auto repairs.  Let's face it, any vehicle can breakdown at any given time.  If they didn't, there would be no need for quality service departments or skilled technicians to repair them.  The added expense and stress of these repairs can be avoided when your vehicle is protected with a service contract.
Service contracts, first and foremost add peace of mind.  There is a certain sense of security achieved by knowing your vehicle is protected from the  unexpected.  Think of how much we spend on auto insurance each year.  Service contracts cover so much more and at a fraction of the cost.  Consider this, with labor rates about $100 per hour, even simple repairs can add up quickly once you factor in parts, towing and rental car costs.
Service contracts are available for every vehicle and every budget.  There are also many different time and mileage options, to cover all driving habits.  Nationwide coverage, towing, rental car and roadside assistance are all included in every service contract we offer.  Whether you include a service contract in your loan package or take advantage of our short term 0% finance options, I can find the right plan to suit your needs.  Even if you've already purchased a vehicle, it is not too late to get protected.
I would love the opportunity to discuss your options further, so feel free to contact me any time at tony1425@msn.com or 845-296-3432

Sports with Fran

What a rough weekend for local football fans.  The Giants were beaten soundly by the rejuvenated Dallas Cowboys and their new head coach Jason Garrett.  Even though the G-men were missing several key players the loss was still inexcusable.  The Jets in the mean time won a game for the third week in a row they had no right winning.  The next 3 weeks are big for both teams and should give us an indication on how they will finish.
Even though it is still very early, I would have to say that all of our local NBA & NHL teams are in for long season, so don't look for anything there.
Locally, the men's and women's basketball teams at Marist get underway.  Lets hope the women can continue their winning ways and the men can become competitive again.  I am Red Fox Club member so let me know if you need any tickets.
See you next week...

Shop Local First

I took my daughters to the mall last night in search of some warmer clothes. While there, my five year old was excited to see that most of the store’s display windows were sparkling with holiday colors and adorned with decorations and “must have” gifts for the upcoming holiday season.
With holiday shopping on my mind, I wanted to remind everyone to shop local first. When you shop local, you keep local people employed and generate revenue that many businesses give back to our community in forms of donations to local youth organizations, local shelters, schools, religious organization and more.
I know it sometimes seems easier to go online and shop instead of putting up with big crowds and long lines. But remember that many of our local shops also have on-line stores and offer the same buying experience as the big department stores. There are also many local artisans who sell their goods at craft fairs throughout the Hudson Valley, making for very unique gift giving ideas. Also consider local wineries, farm markets, church fairs, and more.
I’m not saying don’t shop at the mall…. I’m saying shop local first. Be it a gift certificate to a local farm market, hair supplies from a local beauty salon or a new car from Poughkeepsie Nissan (I just had to throw that in), please remember to support our local businesses this holiday season and shop local first.

Hudson Valley Halloween Haunts

I am typically not the type of person who likes to be scarred, but with Halloween right around the corner I wanted my first blog post to be about the great scary events happening in the Hudson Valley that will appeal to people of all ages.

Kevin McCurdy's Haunted Mansion
First on my list is Kevin McCurdy's Haunted Mansion. I went to this haunted house every year as a child and can still remember the butterflies I felt in my stomach just before entering the house. Now in its 34th season, this is one of America's oldest Halloween attractions and was voted New York's most Interactive Haunted Attractions. A must see. http://www.thehauntedmansion.com/

Haunted Halloween & No Scare Sunday at Museum Village
A children's scavenger hunt, hay rides with bone-chilling creatures, scary mannequins, fortune tellers, a haunted house and more. Plus for the younger children, Museum Village offers a "No Scare Sunday" with games like pass the pumpkin, ghost-bowling and more. http://www.museumvillage.org/

The Great Jack O'Latern Blaze
My family and I went to The Great Jack O'Latern Blaze for the first time last year and were amazed at the over 4,000 individually hand-carved pumpkins. Walking through the woodsy, darkened path you'll find dinosaurs, snakes, giant spider webs, ghosts and more; all made of jack o'lanterns! My children who ranged from 4 to 12 loved this exhibit. Bring a camera and go on-line for advanced tickets as it sells out fast. http://hudsonvalley.org/

Frankenstein's Fortress
Having had my daughter in a Shakespeare program at Wing's Castle, I can attest that artist Pete Wing of Wing's Castle always puts forth his best and although I have not seen this particular attraction, would bet that if Peter Wing is running the show its worth the visit. Described as a fun and frightening Halloween experience with a haunted fortress, twisted trails with imaginative scenarios and improvisational theatre. http://frankensteinsfortress.com/

Sleep Hollow Cemetery Tours (Evening Guided Tour)
This is a evening lantern tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery by cemetery historian Jim Logan. Visit a Revolutionary War General, the cemetery's Revolutionary War and Civil War Monuments, a notorious counterfeiter, a soaring Gothic monument of a wealthy merchant, industrialist Andrew Carnegie and William Rockefeller and more. There is also a 100-year-old underground vault. http://sleepyhowwowcemetery.org/

Below are links to more Hudson Valley Halloween happenings... If you go, please come back and let us know what you thought!
